Tuesday, June 30

5:01 a.m. - A combination of waking up and not being able to return to sleep along with a couple of cats who were apparently starving has me up at the kitchen table typing away here.  I used to get a cup of coffee and turn on the news, but the news is fairly predictable these days - Covid 19, President Trump, Black Lives Matter.  I'm not saying these categories are bad; I just have been enjoying the quiet instead of hearing those stories over and over and over again.  I'm excited about heading up to Darlington, Wisconsin today.  The truck and trailer are ready to go - parked out front of our house on the street,  The main thing this morning is to load up food and get some ice from the school to help with transport.  When we arrive, I'll need to fill up the drinkable water tank, which will be something new for me, but doesn't appear to be difficult.  We are only going to be there today, tomorrow, and Thursday, so it won't be a long trip.  We are going to be returning on Friday morning.  Yesterday, I did get reservations completed for July 27-31 for Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.  Amber and I are headed that direction to check out the sites of that area, particularly the Smoky Mountains, which will be a first for me.  My hope is that we also take at least two more camping trips somewhere more local in between this week and that week, even if it's to go out to Loud Thunder again.  I didn't hear from Carmen yesterday whether or not she took her new bike for a ride; maybe I will hear from her today.  I think I spent too much money on that bike; I discovered there is like a Kelley Blue Book for bikes, and it appears that I paid pretty close to MSRP, but I'm not going to get too upset about it.  I think that's just my "nature" to be honest.  It seems like I'm just not a shrewd salesman/buyer, but I guess there are worse weaknesses.  I really feel good about getting that dang ditch wacked yesterday; it will feel good to come home with that mowed down.  Over the weekend I hope to continue to attack the wetlands.  I did start a little of that task yesterday, and that's going to be a big job...maybe if I am able to just spend an hour or two each day, I can eventually get the tall stuff down.  I'm really hoping this tiling project that is supposed to eventually happen will help about the wetlands situation, but I sincerely have my doubts.  And I'm going to be real disappointed when my $1,905 doesn't really help the situation much.

A little good financial news...it's pay day!  My anal efforts to keep track of where the money goes sometimes stress me out, but I find it beneficial in the long run to really be able to forecast how the financial picture is looking.  I do really need to continue to officiate and umpire now.  I'm looking at another five years to get the truck and trailer paid off.  So maybe after that, I can retire from everything.  I'm actually going to see if I can start trimming the work I need to do, first starting off with eliminating weekend work in the Spring and Fall, then eliminating Fall all together (volleyball) and finally eliminating softball.  Basketball is going to be the last to go unless my knee can't take it anymore.  I love basketball.

Things that I NOW think about with the coronavirus. (6/30)
UTHS was on the news last night and stated that their school district was going to start their school year with blended learning.  Basically, they are starting the year with students going to school some days and remote learning other days, with some students with health conditions not attending school at all.  Students and staff are going to be required to wear masks.  There has been a huge spike in cases in the south where restrictions were eased; Arizona is actually starting to close down again and return restrictions.  Blended learning is going to be an interesting challenge, but I still haven't heard what the expectations are for student accountability, performance, and attendance/adherence to expectations.  Last spring was all about being more concerned for student social emotional health and less about student learning; adjusting to higher performance and attendance requirements is going to be difficult for students and families.

Monday, June 29

Today is a work day.  I'm going to get the truck hooked up to the trailer and ready to travel for tomorrow.  Then, I need to get the lawn mowed and the pool ready for the trip.  Any extra time may be devoted to weed wacking.

5:20 p.m. - Good progress on the day.  I have the truck and trailer connected and ready to go; I even went a little practice driving through Milan, on the interstate, and filled up with gas at Casey's.  I then got home and got the grass mowed and wacked the weeds in the ditch, which is a big accomplishment.  I haven't gotten any exercise, so I'm going to swim or ski walk tonight.

Sunday, June 28

It was a good day.  I picked up a new bike for Carmen for her college graduation gift, and I think she will enjoy it and get many good years out of it.  I had to travel Amboy to get it, but I believe it was worth it.  When I returned home, it was a pool day, and I got to visit with my mom, Carmen, my brother and his wife, and eventually Cole.  Finally, I think I zeroed in on a campsite to reserve for our trip to the Smoky Mountains July 27-31.  Not much work got done, but that will get accomplished tomorrow.

Saturday, June 27 - Happy Wedding Day Georgia and Greg

5:37 a.m. - Greg is getting married tonight, which is something that I honestly wasn't sure was ever going to happen.  Last night a few of us sat around the kitchen table at my house and just talked.  It wasn't an eventful bachelor party, but those kind of parties are for years that are behind us.  I had a few beers and sipped on some Gentleman Jack, so this morning I'm not feeling the best - drinking alcohol is something else for years that are behind me.  I'm not sure that I'll be asked to give a toast, but if I am, I think I have my theme.  The theme is "The Rest of the Story", and I do believe that we all have chapters in our lives, and marriage or remarriage is a big new chapter that shapes the next part of our story.  I am happy for both Georgia and Greg that the are sharing the next chapter of their stories together and that the rest of their story is full of laughs and hugs and adventures and love.

I got the truck back yesterday, and it sounds A LOT better.  Now if I could get that rust spot taken care of, I'd really be happy.  I helped Jack mount a television in the trailer yesterday, which was a bit of an adventure.  It got done, and I don't think Amber is completely happy, but the project only resulted in a couple of extra holes.  I'm not sure what I'm going to accomplish today; perhaps I'll take a look at the list and see what I can remove, or maybe Amber has plans.  I'm definitely going to be taking a nap and some point.

I wonder if the website is correct.  Rock Island County is reporting a jump of 53 positive results.  That's a really big number for the count.

Friday, June 26

5:50 a.m. - Today is my last day of work at FedEx Ground, at least for the month of July.  I honestly should keep working because my financial picture looks a little weak right now, but July is typically my only "off month" of the year, and I'm thinking now more than ever I'm going to need an "off-month".  I resigned from FedEx correctly, and I've been told I can return if/when I would like, so that's good news.  That return month would be August if COVID doesn't cancel summer/fall softball and volleyball.  I just really don't have much choice, but to go back and pick up the extra hours and money if I can't officiate, especially now with the purchase of the new truck/trailer.  That's in the distance, though.  For now, I'm going to help Greg celebrate his wedding, then we are heading to Wisconsin for some camping next week.  That trip will help me gauge my financial picture a little further.  Amber and I had discussed maybe adventuring to the Smoky Mountains or heading to Texas to see some sights and visit Tony in San Antonio, but if my financial picture doesn't improve, we will need to scale down those plans.  The big "wrench" has been the tiling project in my backyard as part of the "neighborhood's" efforts to have improved drainage.  I had not budgeted nearly two thousand dollars to have someone tile through the backyard.  But isn't that how life works?  Just when you think you are getting on top of your finances, life gives a wrench.  In hindsight, maybe all the timing was intentional from the "powers above".  Had Jeff visited earlier before the trailer/truck exploration thing, I likely wouldn't have even considered those purchases; maybe I can accomplish all of this, but I'm feeling a little weight on my shoulders.  And to be honest, if this COVID thing causes remote learning for first semester, we are going to need that trailer to just get away for the weekends.

Things that I NOW think about with the coronavirus. (6/26)
President Trump last night on a FoxNews interview blamed the lingering COVID problem on the fact that we are conducting too many tests.  Huh?  This thing isn't going away, and now China is reporting a new outbreak.  I really think we are going to be looking at remote learning starting the school year and likely going throughout first semester.  And Illinois is set to make the move to the next phase of easing restrictions, and it's just going to come back here too.  The July 4th holiday is coming up, and it's going to increase this issue even more.  The picture of all this just doesn't look good.

Thuirsday, June 25

6:05 a.m. - I finished my book.  I wasn't sure if I had talked about that or not, but I finished it.  I have another book now to read that I will start.  I enjoy reading, but I haven't read as much over the summer as I would usually do.  I normally read at least three books, so I still have time.  It's Thursday, and Thursday means garbage day, so I will be completing that task.  Then I will probably clean the pool before heading into town to do some shopping and run to Farm-n-Fleet.  I'm designating today as a get ready for Greg's wedding day among other purposes.

Things that I NOW think about with the coronavirus. (6/25)
ISBE came out with recommendations/guidelines for opening schools...masks, temperature checks, social distancing...it's going to be a good time!  I can see doing a lot of this stuff with high school kids, but elementary?  Ugh.

Wednesday, June 24

9:27 a.m. - Got home a little bit ago from our maiden voyage of the travel trailer.  We went to Loud Thunder for a couple of nights, and I would call the trip a success.  We learned a lot and experienced a few days of "camping life", which was good before we set out for Wisconsin with Shawn and Mary next week!  Even Lily went with us, but as I write this, she's sleeping, so maybe it tired her out.  Nothing really "surprised me" (knock on wood) other than the amount of water in the grey tank from a couple of showers, the bathroom sink, and the kitchen sink.  Maybe trying to get showers at the shower house should be a higher priority.  I have to go now and get the yard mowed.

Monday, June 22

7:25 a.m.  Today starts the last week of working at FedEx Ground.  Amber wanted to try to get the trailer to Loud Thunder today, and since about 3 a.m. this morning, it's been raining heavily.  I'll need to mow the yard big time, but that may not get done until tomorrow.  Today might be a day of reading up on the trailer and truck, but I can run down to Slayden's and get an estimate on the repairs on the steering column bearing and brake pedal bushing.

Things that I NOW think about with the coronavirus. (6/22)

6:40 a.m. - I don't remember my great-grandfathers, and to be honest, I don't think they were alive when I was born.  My father is a good man and loving father to me, but he's not a social person.  He prefers no more than small groups and really at this time in his life, is much more comfortable just being at home in front of the television or computer.  His Dad worked at a jewelry store in East Moline called Sable's jewelry, and I really only saw him there at the store, at his home for holiday/family gatherings, or with horses at the fair or shows or rides.  I think he would have liked to spend more time working with horses, but the store required a great deal of his time, even though I think he enjoyed it.  My Dad and his Dad didn't have a great relationship; while I don't have a lot of specifics, my understanding was that my grandfather Bizarri was very hard on my father and not very loving.  My Dad was the oldest of four boys, so maybe that had something to do with it.  My Grandfather Bizarri died with regrets, and I fear my father will die with regrets as well, but I hope not.  My Grandfather Westpfahl was more of a community person, although I don't know that I would call him social in the time that I knew him.  His love was farming, but he also was a school board member and a leader on the county fair board, as he was the head of the sheep barn, even though I don't think he ever had sheep.  My mom tells stories of her early days when they had dairy cows, and I remember the barn that they milked in, even though it wasn't a large dairy operation.  My Grandfather Westpfahl was a proud farmer and loved the land.  While my picture in my mind of my Grandfather Jim Bizarri is behind the counter of a jewelry case, my picture in my mind of my Grandfather Westpfahl is on a farm tractor.  I helped on the farm quite a bit, and I even helped in the jewelry store too - two totally different places, but both great experiences.  My Dad, though, was and is an awesome father to me.  In a group, he's often awkward and louder, but with me he's quieter and gentler.  He's still a parent in always giving me advice and guidance, but his health has deteriorated, some of it his own doing, but other by choice.  My picture in my mind of my Dad is in a welding helmet in a factory busting his butt in factory conditions with an aching body doing what he could to keep his family going.  I don't know that the Westpfahls had a great relationship with my Dad, but I know my Grandfather Westpfahl would do anything for them, which included buying a house for my family to live in - the old Minteer building, which eventually my brother would occupy.  The other Dad in my life is Amber's Dad, Jack.  He's a great Dad and grandfather.  He loves to golf, and he also was a factory guy like my father for a time.  I get the impression that he did whatever he needed to do to keep his family going as well.  Isn't that the best quality of a Dad...someone that is willing and tries to do whatever he can to meet family needs?  I'm not suggesting that isn't a "mother thing" too, but it seems to me that moms handle a little bit more of the compassion and emotional stuff and dads do the other stuff that give the family what it needs.

I don't know if I'll see Cole nor Chase today.  I know Cole is umpiring his tail off, which is great.  He said he's making $680 this weekend umpiring, and it takes me three weeks of working part-time at FedEx Ground to make that kind of money.  He suggested I join him because umpires are needed, but I'm going to hold off until August.  Even though all this Covid19 has had me home more, I've worked hard to do my job for the school district, and picking up this part-time job at FedEx Ground has been an experience.  I need July off to prep myself for the upcoming school year and whatever comes with it.  I'm not sure what Chase is doing; I did finally get a message from him earlier this week saying he just had a lot of stuff going on.  I'm not sure what that means; that kid is a mystery.  To be honest, as Dad legacies go, perhaps I would get pretty good grades in all the categories except Chase...I just made some missteps or didn't take the right steps some places along history to be of more help and guidance to him.  I don't know that it means regrets, but maybe it is.  I hope there's still time for me to be the Dad to him that I would like to be.  Carmen is and always will be "my baby".  Oh I know she is her mom's baby too, and that's perfectly okay.  I'm not suggesting Carmen is ONLY my baby, but that girl has got a great mind.  Her heart needs to get stronger, and she's got some learning experiences in front of her with her teaching profession that will be challenging, but her mind and hopefully me will help her strengthen her heart.  She's going to be amazing because she has a passion for people, which she shares with me I think.  None of my children are married yet; none of them have children, so know grandkids on the Bizarri side, but there's still time for that.  Heck, I'm going to be living until I'm 100, so I got lots of time for grandchildren and great grandchildren.  And now I've got a new truck and camper to taking them places!

While it's not really "the same", being a step-dad is part of the story isn't it?  Karrigan, Kenzie, and Kourtney are all beautiful and wonderful but distinct personalities.  And the family is growing.  I'd like to believe that a place in their hearts, and that's a good thing.  Amber and I try to be as helpful and supportive as we can be, and we spend a lot of time with grandkids and Sophie the grand-dog, which is sometimes hectic but also doable and okay and full of experiences that keep Amber and me young.

As for today...not sure...maybe a walk with Lily and Carmen.  I want to get over and visit with Dad at least a little, as I have a card and some mixed nuts for him.  I think the Killer B's are going to be with us - Brinley and Brooklyn.  We may be going to watch Darren (Harrison) in his Demo Derby, but being around a lot of yelling and screaming people in a crowd with a 1 and 2-year old may not be ideal.  After that..well, I'm not sure.  I've got some mowing to do, and I need to wack the ditch weeds, but it rained last night and may rain today, so those jobs may have to wait until later in the week.

9:26 p.m.  - We ended up going to the demo derby - Carmen, Amber, and I.  Darren did pretty well, as I think he finished 6th.  When we came home, Cole was here, and it was nice to visit with him.  I got a message from Chase on Facebook Messenger.  I think I'm going to head to bed and do some reading.  Tomorrow, I need to mow the lawn, but we are also going to try to take the trailer to Loud Thunder.

Things that I NOW think about with the coronavirus. (6/21)

Hospitalizations dipped below 500 in Illinois, which is great.  President Trump had a political rally in Tulsa, which was stupid.  It will be interesting to see the fallout of Covid 19 cases with that event.

Saturday, June 20

We started the day at 5:30 a.m. with Brooklyn and Brinley, particularly Brooklyn who decided not to sleep in late.  So I made some eggs and got her going and played until Brinley and Amber woke up.  Have the girls stay overnight is awesome; I wouldn't trade it for anything, but the experience definitely takes some energy.  We met Kenzie to get the kids to her when we were on our way with Stormy the cat to the vet for a follow-up shot.  That dang cat better stay healthy the rest of the summer.  Then after his appointment, we headed to Reason's to pick up beef that we had ordered...man is that stuff expensive.  Then I had some time to piddle around with the trucks and trailer, which none of it went as smoothly as I had hoped.  The bed mat in the Dodge isn't going to fit the GMC.  The lock on the toolbox on the GMC isn't going to work and it's going to cost $60 to replace.  I took the bicycles out of the Dodge because we didn't get a ride on on Thursday, and the Dodge went to Darren's to look as pretty as possible and see if we could sell it.  After that Carmen arrived and we had a chance to visit along with some Pizza Joynt pizza, and we watched Wonder Woman, which I had never seen.

Friday, June 19

6:20 a.m. - It's a rain day.  I'm considering getting a swim workout in before the rain hits, but if I'm going to do that, I will need to make a decision quickly.

9:28 a.m. - It's been a productive morning so far.  I got in a little swim, weeded the garden bed and flower bed, got some pool tabs in the chlorinator and backwashed the filter, and finally I took Sophie and Lily for a little walk.  When I got back home, I discovered I had received a message from Kriegers that I was scheduled for a maintenance check; I didn't know whether to cry or laugh.  It would be nice to receive a vehicle prior to being scheduled for a maintenance appointment.  I think it's time to go after my eye drops and perhaps a lawn and garden hat.  Maybe B&B will have something.

Things that I NOW think about with the coronavirus. (6/19)
As I'm listening to the news, Iowa's governor just claimed we are "well underway in our recovery".  I think that's the message that I'm hearing...recovery trumps healthcare concerns and Covid 19 information.  I get it, as many people view the economic situation as more important to address rather than the healthcare concerns surrounding Covid 19.  I guess I'm hoping that the healthcare concerns are swept to the side too much.  I hope there is a balance.

Thursday, June 18 - Happy Birthday Amber

3:58 Today hasn't quite been the day we expected.  We ended up having a takeout lunch from Adolph's to celebrate, and we sang happy birthday to Amber.  We didn't get the bike ride in because Amber went get Brinley and Brooklyn, but maybe we can do that tomorrow.  I ended up mowing the back 40 and then pretty much spent the day in daycare mode, as Tucker joined us for much of the day as well.  I think we are planning to go to the casino tonight to cap off the birthday.  Maybe I'll win a jackpot and be able to pay off the truck and trailer.

10:00 p.m. - nope...no jackpot.  As usual, we lost, but it was a nice evening with Amber's parents.  After the casino we stopped at Culver's and had ice cream and sandwiches.

Wednesday, June 17

6:39 p.m. 206.6!  That was my weight today!  Of course I'm dehydrated, but I also got my butt kicked at my FedExGround workout last night, and I didn't eat anything after returning from the workout.  That was different than I had been eating because I had been eating protein.  Eating has seemed to help me sleep, so I've been eating; plus, I've been hungry.  Last night I didn't sleep very well, but I guess I was burning calories.  It feels good to be that weight, and I hope I can get to 200 by the end of the summer.  I'm only working at FedExGround through next week, so I hope when I end that job that I can keep my eating habits and exercise habits in check.

3:05 p.m. - I made it to Lowe's this morning to pick up some wood to make blocks for the trailer so I don't have to use those heavy landscaping blocks.  I also picked up a solid cinder block for the tongue, and I got a small took box to use as a travel box in the truck.  When I got home the Harrisons arrived, and they just left a few minutes ago.  Gigi, Brinley, Brooklyn, and I had lunch in the new camper, so that was exciting.  Now  have a about an hour before another FedExGround workout.

Things that I NOW think about with the coronavirus. (6/17)

Colleges and universities seem to be planning to start the semester earlier and end earlier - like before Thanksgiving.  To me, this means they are anticipating the Covid situation to re-surge in the winter.  I wonder if high schools are going to follow suit.

Tuesday, June 16

6:19 a.m. - Last night on my way home, I thought about yesterday's activities - dentist, used car dealership, package handling.  Wow.  That day was a challenge, and yet all of those things - I HOPE - is going to lead to positive consequences.  All that being said, I HOPE today isn't as taxing on my stress level.  Today the weather is cool, but temps are suppose to warm up.

1:53 p.m.  I'm tired.  I think it's nap time.  I spent the day so far washing the trailer.  Basically it was me and magic erasers and a garden hose.  It cleaned up pretty nice.  Before heading in for a FedEx Ground workout, I think it's time to get some rest.

Monday, June 15

2:50 p.m. - It's been a day of getting tortured today...first I had to go to the dentist for a regular check-up.  The good news is that my teeth are in great shape, but getting my teeth worked on is a Top 10 Jay Bizarri dislike.  That wonderful activity, though, doesn't top dealing with auto dealerships.  That truck I want and need...well the dealership is taking full advantage of the times.  I can't find a 3/4 ton truck that is in some kind of decent shape and doesn't have 200,000 miles, so when I found one, I was in a seller's market.  My bank I want to work with doesn't value a low mileage later model vehicle as much as the dealership does...big surprise, huh?  Unfortunately, I was surprised at the difference, and I'm not a big fan of surprises.  I felt a little stupid, unprepared, and ignorant.  I'm going to cross my fingers and hope that this decision is still a good one.  I sincerely hope I don't regret this decision.

In other news, I got a couple of other things accomplished on my "to-do" list, so that's good.  And I also sprayed some Ortho on the creeping Charlie in the yard, so that was a good thing too.

Sunday, June 14

12:23 p.m. - Today has been productive.  I completed the online application for the truck I'm hoping to purchase, and included my insurance agent in the information.  I also updated the for sale notice on the Dodge.  Then I finished mowing the yard, backwashed and refilled the chlorinator for the pool, and commenced to clean/organize the garage.  Isn't amazing how much "stuff" accumulates that can just be thrown out or reorganized to save space and just generally look a lot nicer?

I agreed to a purchase price on a truck - 2005 GMC Sierra with 46,000 miles.  There is a problem with a rattle that bothers me...something with the brake pedal or steering column, but the mileage and the condition of the truck sold me as a good fit for what I need.

Friday, June 12

What a day!  - I spent the morning helping mom with the stalls at the farm, and that went really well.  We moved a lot of rock and finished improving all six of the main stalls.  After that, I worked on getting the title and license finished for the trailer, and I unhooked the Dodge from the trailer for the first time.  There is definitely an experience and learning curve that is going to take some time and patience.  Then I finished the day working at FedEx Ground, but it was a short sort which was welcomed.

Thursday, June 11

9:27 p.m. - Well, I'm the owner of a travel trailer.  It's bigger in many ways than I thought...size, maintenance, set-up...it's going to be a definite learning experience.  I also helped mom at the farm with some stall work, and I finished up with a FedEx Ground workout.  Now I'm going to try to find a new truck, because the old Dodge isn't going to make it.  And finding a new truck isn't going to be easy.

Wednesday, June 10

It was an eventful day.  We are working on finalizing the purchase of the camper, I started helping my mom with the barn, and the FedEx Ground workout went late.  I've come to realize that I'm pretty good from 4:30 p.m. to around 9:00 p.m., but after that, there is a diminishing return on my energy level.  The woman who is my boss told me at 8:20 to finish up a trailer, and I was "good to go" - the message sent from managers when it's time to leave.  A few minutes later she said, "I lied, we are going to try to get another truck in."  Just before 10:00 p.m., I went into a trailer to work on it, and about 10 minutes later I came out, and everyone was gone, including the manager.  This is the second or third time this has happened - I just punched out and left.

Tuesday, June 9

3:55 - I'm 99% sure I'm going to purchase the camper, and now I'm looking at purchasing a different truck.  I found a 2010 at Krieger's in Muscatine, and maybe I'll look at it tomorrow.  After mulling around on the internet today, if I can find something that will work below $15,000, that will be a good thing.  I feel comfortable with the camper; now I just need to feel comfortable with getting a truck.  It was a rain day with tropical depression Christobal hitting our area, so I spent most of the day watching the Harrison girls and the Southwell boy.  Now it's off to a FedEx workout.

Monday, June 8

6:54 a.m. - The hottest day of the week is today, so I'll be mowing the yard and spending time in the pool.  All throughout the day, I'm going to concentrate on drinking lots of water.  The Harrison girls are going to be arriving, so I'll be spending some time with them.   My garden is coming along nicely.  There are blossoms on the pepper and tomato plants, so that's good.  I have had a couple of hiccups:  stepped on one of the marigolds, not all the radish seeds took; and one of the been plants lost leaves.  Plus, I'm keeping an eye on the cucumber plant, as I'm getting some browning on a few leaves.

2:51 p.m. - Amber and I went to look at a camper today, and I like the feel of the situation.  I'm going to look into financing, but I'll need a new truck, but that's not really a bad thing.

Sunday, June 7

6:54 a.m. - I really need to get yard work done today.  On the other hand, Greg and Georgia have invited us along with two other couples to take a ride on his houseboat at 1:00 p.m.  Plus, Kenzie and the Harrisons are having some friends over to have a pool party.  With those things going on, I need to get as much work done this morning.  I will see how far I get, and then assess the day from there.

11:41 a.m. - I got a good morning work session in.  I sprayed round-up, clipped the bushes, weed wacked the ditch, and made my first attempt at fixing the erosion issue in the ditch.  Life is good.  Kenzie's party guests should be arriving soon, and Amber and I will be heading to meet up with Greg's boat in a little while.  I can now just sit on my ass for the rest of the day and night and not feel guilty about anything!

8:46 p.m. - The afternoon was spent with friends on a pontoon boat on the Mississippi...those are the small moments in life that make life wonderful!  We floated downstream, had a late lunch at Ducky's, and then motored back upstream at Sunset Marina.

Saturday, June 6

6:13 p.m.   -- Stormy the Cat cost $254.51 for his urinary tract infection and new food to help him and Bella lose weight and improve urinary health.  No, I'm not happy about that. I exercised a "very mini" triathlon, but I also ate too much, and I had a few beers.  Bottom line is that I won't be below 210 lbs. tomorrow morning.  It was the "perfect" pool day today, according to Amber, and I did spend a lot of time in the pool.  Tonight is going to be low key...maybe a movie or reading a book.

6:24 a.m. - I got the yard mowed yesterday, and I helped mom and dad with their truck batteries.  Then I spent a little time in the sun and pool and completed a FedEx Ground workout.  Today, there is rain in the forecast this morning, which will limit outdoor work.

Thursday, 6/4/2020

7:37 a.m.  It's Thursday, so it's garbage day and recycle day.  Somehow I slept until 7 a.m., so I had to get up and scramble to get the garbage out.  I need to pick up some chlorine and tabs today, and then I'll be mowing before the next round of rains arrive.  The weather is about heat and humidity now, which means pop up storms in the afternoon or evening are likely.  Yesterday was an irritating day...I didn't get much accomplished, but getting out with Amber to have lunch and visit the casino was nice.

Wednesday, June 3

7:56 a.m. - Yesterday was a pool day, but today is a rain day.  I think Amber and I are venturing to the Iowa side to visit a casino and get some lunch.  Then we'll return home, and I will eventually get ready for the daily FedEx Ground workout.  I didn't sleep well last night, as I have some family matters that are irritating to my brain and heart.  Those matters don't have a lot of good options for solutions, so I find myself hoping for something good to happen when past history doesn't justify that hope.

2:42 p.m. - Well, nothing much changed about going to the casino, which normally consists of losing $100 in a relatively short amount of time.  The social distancing thing really didn't seem significant.  I would say the using of masks was about 50/50, and all the employees were wearing masks.  We went to Chili's for lunch, and most customers were not wearing masks but the staff employees were.

Tuesday, June 2

7:00 a.m. - Last night local cities had 9:00 p.m. curfews for residents, yet it appears that no civil unrest occurred.  Maybe part of that was the curfew that was imposed, or maybe Sunday's unrest and vandalism and theft was isolated.  Today is going to be a pool day with temps near ninety degrees and likely many folks looking for the pool to cool off.  I'm going to get my exercise in this morning and then get some sun screen and help with pool day until my FedEx Ground workout.  I think my plan is to work at FedEx until July 2 and then offer the facility my help if/when the school year goes to e-learning and umpiring/officiating is suspended.

9:45 p.m. - It was a good ole pool day today.  There were lots of kids and family, and everyone enjoyed the water and the sun in the heat of the temperature.

Monday, June 1

5:55 a.m. - I have to go to the dentist this morning, so I'm up a little early.  Amber and I had a "date night" last night by eating on the patio at Luli's in Milan.  The weather was beautiful, and there were perhaps 8 other people also eating outside.  Earlier in the day, we went for a bike ride along the Mississippi River bike path - first starting at Sunset Marina and biking all the way to the IWireless Center.

I'm watching press coverage of what is being called "civil unrest" in Davenport last night.  From the video coverage, it looks like young kids just being idiots - almost like protesters "wanna-bees" that appear to be mirroring the violence that is plaguing many cities across the United States in response to the death of George Floyd in Minnesota.  The video footage is depressing, and the city of Davenport is actually requesting that its residents shelter at home.  Davenport actually had to call in police assistance from neighboring communities, and the mayor is going to asking for National Guard assistance.  Ugh.  There were actually shootings as well, including a police officer being hit.  Press coverage is reporting that police were reporting to 45 serious incidents.  Good grief.

Despite all of this, I'm going to head to the dentist and then help my dad with taking out a battery in his truck.  Then I'm returning home to spend some time with Carmen and have some pool time before going for a FedEx Ground workout at 4:30 p.m.

Things that I NOW think about with the coronavirus. (6/1)
New day of record keeping....hospitalizations seem to be the most important statistic to track, as it appears that our governments are easing restrictions amid pressure by apparently enough people to ease those restrictions.  As long as we don't run out of ICU beds, it seems we are going to forge ahead.
